A wooded site in the center of town, once a historic Limestone Quarry, one naturally slows on entering, to savor the beauty.
The Lime Kiln is now a historic outdoor theater in Lexington VA, and the site of summer long music concerts and special gatherings.
As a site of large gatherings, from outdoor concerts to special events, it hosts several outdoor parking areas, surrounded by trees and cliffs.
The Kiln, website https://www.limekilntheater.org, began its outdoor entertainment journey in 1967, in Lexington, VA., replacing the abandoned limestone quarry with amphitheater style seating.
The Meadow Lot isone of the outdoor parking areas, each lot embedded in the beauties of this Shenandoah area.
When I was asked to recreate the beautiful, but deteriorating wood signage, I thought it would be fun to include the area Natives in each sign’s directions.
In this center of town area whose natural beauty has been protected and preserved, there were no shortage of animal cousins willing to pose.
But whether bear, rabbit or groundhog, the inhabitants make room for the human visitors who attend the evening shows.
The Lobby is an ample outdoor space full of picnic tables, near the varied food trucks that serve at each concert occasion. There’s room for kids to roam, and everyone to eat, drink and visit .
And yes, even the Mice are dancing by the end of an evening. I’ve made about a dozen signs so far, and will be adding more as the season progresses.
Spending time in a place this sweet, it’s easy to feel that Love is in the Air.
